Antique French Walnut Writing Desk, Louis XVI Style, Late 19th Century, c. 1880–1900
An antique French writing desk dating from the late 19th century, made of solid walnut. The desk is designed in the Louis XVI style and features tapered fluted legs, carved corner blocks and a hand-carved floral garland decorating the front apron.
The desk is fitted with a single full-width drawer and is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed either against a wall or freestanding in a room.
The tabletop and moulded edge contain historic woodworm holes. These have been preventively treated, after which the wood was finished with furniture paste wax. This treatment has made the holes less noticeable while preserving the authentic appearance and character of the wood.
The desk remains in good antique condition with normal signs of age and use, including surface wear, minor marks and an old ring mark on the tabletop. It is structurally sound and ready for use.
