Antique French Bronze Andirons (Chenets), Louis XV Style Fireplace Dogs, Pair, c. 1880–1900
A pair of antique French bronze andirons dating from the late 19th century, made in the Louis XV Revival style. Originally designed for use in an open fireplace, the andirons feature flowing rococo scrollwork, acanthus leaf ornamentation and asymmetrical decorative forms characteristic of the period.
The rear wrought iron supports retain their original function of supporting firewood while allowing air to circulate beneath the logs. Today, these pieces also work well as decorative fireplace accessories.
The set is made of solid bronze with a naturally aged patina and traces of the original gilt finish visible in places. Both andirons remain structurally sound and show normal signs of age and use, including surface wear, light scratches and oxidation consistent with their age.
Sold as a pair.
