Antique French Pine Workshop Shelving Unit, Industrial Shoe Rack, circa 1900
Antique French compartment shelving unit dating from around 1900.
Originally used in a cutlery workshop in Thiers, Puy-de-Dôme, a French town historically known for its knife-making industry.
Made from solid pine, the shelving unit has a simple, primitive construction and a beautiful warm, timeworn patina. Each compartment retains its original brass number plate, reflecting its former workshop use.
With its nine open compartments and shallow depth, this is a particularly versatile piece. It would work beautifully as a shoe rack or hallway storage unit, but could also be used as a low bookcase, display cabinet, shop fitting or general storage unit.
The wood shows attractive traces of age and former use, giving the piece plenty of authentic character.
