Antique French Terracotta Planter – 19th Century XXL Wash Trough

Large French terracotta wash trough dating from the 19th century.

Made from terracotta, with a dark grey surface and fine vertical incised decoration around the body. The trough has a substantial rounded rim and an old iron band around the upper section.

At the bottom is the original drainage spout, which is closed with a cork stopper.

The trough is in good antique condition, with visible traces of age and use. There are old metal repairs and some wear and small losses to the rim, as shown in the photographs.

Originally made as a functional wash trough, its large size and simple form also make it suitable today as a decorative vessel or an impressive indoor or outdoor planter.
