Industrial French Workbench Kitchen Island, Antique Chestnut & Oak Work Table, circa 1900
Large antique French workbench with a rustic, timeworn appearance. Originally made as a practical working table, it now makes a particularly characterful kitchen island, preparation table or shop display.
The workbench has a substantial 8 cm thick solid chestnut top, supported by sturdy solid oak legs. The lower shelf is made from pine and provides generous additional storage for cookware, baskets, ceramics or other objects.
The table stands on four castors, making this substantial piece relatively easy to move. The original construction, heavy timbers and visible traces of former use give it an authentic industrial and rustic character. The wood shows numerous marks, small holes, irregularities and wear accumulated over many years, all contributing to its beautiful aged appearance.
With a working height of approximately 97 cm, it is particularly well suited for use as a kitchen island or standing worktable. The narrower 42 cm deep worktop also makes it an interesting option for spaces where a full-depth kitchen island would be too large.
