Large French Napoleon III Style Mirror with Composition Frame, circa 1880–1900

Large French wall mirror dating from the late 19th century. The frame is made of wood with molded composition (gesso) decoration and features an elaborate crest with scrolling foliage, floral motifs and stylised mythological figures characteristic of the Napoleon III style.

The frame has a matte bronze-coloured finish with a naturally aged appearance. Its generous size makes it suitable for use above a fireplace, in a hallway, bedroom or living room.

The frame shows light wear and a naturally developed patina consistent with age. The mirror glass also shows light signs of age. The reverse has been renewed at some point during its lifetime.
