Set of 4 Vintage Baumann Bistro Chairs and Matching Stool, France, circa 1950s

A set of four French bistro chairs with matching stool by Baumann, dating from the 1950s.

Made from beech wood, the chairs feature the characteristic lightweight construction associated with mid-century French café and bistro furniture. Each chair has a gently curved back with two horizontal rails, a shaped wooden seat and curved supports beneath the seat.

The matching round stool has a similar bentwood construction and is reinforced with black metal stretchers between the legs.

The wood has a warm honey-brown finish with visible variations in colour and patina. The set shows signs of age and former use, including scratches, marks and wear to the surfaces, particularly on the seats. These have been left as part of the original character of the set.

The chairs and stool are structurally sound and suitable for everyday use around a dining or kitchen table, or for a café or restaurant interior.
