Antique French Elm Commode Chest of Drawers with Marble Top, 19th Century (Circa 1850–1880)
This elegant antique French elm commode, also referred to as a chest of drawers, dates from the mid to late 19th century. Crafted primarily from solid elm wood and complemented by an oak frame, the piece showcases a rich and expressive grain with a warm, natural patina.
The commode is topped with a striking black marble slab featuring subtle grey veining, providing both durability and visual contrast.
It features five spacious drawers, offering ample storage. Four drawers are fitted with functioning locks and come with a key. The lower drawer opens from underneath, a practical and characteristic detail of the period.
The cabinet stands on a solid plinth base and is constructed in multiple parts (frame, five drawers, and marble top), which facilitates transport and installation.
The wood shows light, age-related wear consistent with its period, adding to its authentic character. The piece has been treated against woodworm and remains structurally sound.
