Antique French School Desk, Black Writing Desk, Lift Top Desk, circa 1900
This antique French school desk dates from around 1900. It features a worn matte black painted finish and a sloping writing surface that lifts to reveal a spacious storage compartment.
The legs are made of oak, while the body is constructed from poplar. The desk retains its original porcelain inkwell, positioned at the back of the writing surface, a characteristic feature of early French school furniture.
Originally made for classroom use, the desk is also suitable as a writing desk, side table, laptop desk, or decorative accent in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
