Antique French Louis Philippe Mirror, Gilt Mercury Mirror, 19th Century
An antique French Louis Philippe mirror dating from the mid-19th century, crafted during the Louis Philippe period (circa 1840–1860).
The mirror features its original wooden frame with gesso decoration and an aged gilt finish. The simple rounded profile and beaded inner moulding are characteristic of Louis Philippe mirrors from this period. It retains its original mercury mirror plate, displaying the natural foxing and oxidation that have developed over time.
The mirror remains in good antique condition with age-related wear. The frame shows losses to the gesso and gilding, age cracks, and several old stabilized repairs, all consistent with its age and use. The original mirror glass exhibits characteristic spotting and oxidation. The mirror is structurally sound and ready for use.
A versatile decorative piece suitable for a hallway, living room, bedroom, bathroom or above a fireplace.
