French Modernist Beech & Tubular Steel Writing Desk, 1930s

French Modernist writing desk dating from the 1930s, combining beechwood and plywood with a distinctive tubular steel construction.

The desk consists of two storage cabinets, each fitted with a panelled door and adjustable plywood shelves. Both cabinets are supported by continuous bent tubular steel frames, which also form the legs. The steel retains its aged blue-green painted finish with visible wear and patina.

A rectangular wooden top connects the two cabinets. Please note that the open space between the cabinets is relatively narrow, measuring 33 cm wide and 69 cm high, and may therefore feel restricted for an adult when used as a seated writing desk.

The combination of geometric wooden cabinetry and tubular steel construction reflects the Modernist design of the 1930s, with clear Bauhaus influence.

The desk remains in good vintage condition with age-related wear, including marks, scratches, surface wear and losses to the painted finish of the steel. The original aged character and patina have been preserved.

Suitable as a compact writing desk, console or distinctive accent piece.
