Antique French Oak Strongbox Cabinet, Rustic Lockable Wooden Safe, c. 1750–1850

A rare antique strongbox cabinet from France, dating from the late 18th to mid-19th century (circa 1750–1850). Originally used for storing money, valuables and important documents, this compact cabinet is handcrafted from exceptionally thick solid oak, while the door is made of solid chestnut.

The cabinet is constructed using traditional hand-cut dovetail joints and heavy 4 cm thick oak boards, reflecting the robust craftsmanship of the period. The chestnut door is reinforced with hand-forged iron straps and retains its original keyhole escutcheon. The original lock is present but no longer functions.

The wood has developed a rich natural patina over time, with shrinkage cracks, tool marks, surface wear and other signs of age that contribute to its authentic character. Today it makes an attractive decorative object, a small storage cabinet or a collectible example of early French country furniture.
