Large Antique Cast Iron Jardinière on Foot, Brown-Gold Patina, France, circa 1900
Large antique cast iron jardinière, originating from France and dating to circa 1900. The jardinière features an oval bowl raised on a foot, with decorative scrolling handles and floral reliefs characteristic of French ornamental metalwork from the turn of the 20th century.
The surface retains layers of aged original paint, showing gold-toned and brown to reddish-brown paint remnants. These worn layers, together with areas of exposed cast iron and natural oxidation, form a rich, varied patina that reflects the jardinière’s age and long history of use.
Due to its generous size, this jardinière was originally intended for substantial plant arrangements and now serves as a strong decorative statement. Drainage holes are present in the base, confirming its original function as a planter.
Suitable for use as a large decorative planter, jardinière, or sculptural accent, for interior use or sheltered outdoor settings.
Please note: this jardinière differs in patina and paint remnants from the other example currently available, which is offered in a separate listing.
