Vintage French Handwoven Linen Sheet – Natural Flax Fabric, Early 20th Century, 210 × 280 cm, 2 kg
Beautiful and authentic vintage French linen sheet, woven from natural flax fibers.
This piece has a gorgeous texture with the subtle irregularities typical of handwoven or early machine-woven linen. The fabric has a warm, natural beige tone and a substantial feel — heavy (2 kg) yet soft and supple.
It consists of two panels (each 105 × 280 cm) joined by a single central seam, a traditional feature found in early 20th-century French household textiles.
The linen is in very good vintage condition, with only light creasing and slight tonal variations consistent with its age. It remains strong and intact — ideal for reuse as a bedspread, curtain panel, tablecloth, or upholstery fabric.
Dating from the early 20th century (circa 1910–1935), this linen sheet represents the exceptional craftsmanship of traditional French rural weaving. Its two-panel construction and heavy handwoven texture are typical of pre-industrial linen produced in northern France and Belgium. Such linens were often woven as part of a bridal trousseau and carefully preserved for generations.
This textile is made from authentic French handwoven linen — often referred to historically as “chanvre”, a term once used for both flax and hemp fabrics. The texture and softness confirm that it is woven from pure flax fibers, typical of high-quality rural French linens from that period.
