Antique French Optician Table Display Cabinet – Walnut Roll Top Vitrine, Early 1900s

A rare and charming antique French optician’s table display cabinet, dating from the early 20th century and originally used as a tabletop vitrine in an optician’s shop. According to the previous owner, this elegant piece came from an optician and would have been used to display spectacles, optical accessories, or other delicate items directly on a counter or display table.

This beautiful table model vitrine features a tambour roll-top door that smoothly slides upward to reveal a slanted glass display compartment, allowing items to be attractively presented while remaining protected. Beneath the display sits a lockable drawer, which secures together with the roll-top using the original locking system.

Crafted from walnut wood, the cabinet has developed a warm aged patina and is finished with traditional beer paint (bierverf), giving the surface a beautifully timeworn appearance with attractive craquelé details on the sides.

Its compact proportions make it an ideal countertop showcase, collector’s cabinet, jewellery display, curiosity vitrine, or decorative conversation piece. A highly decorative and unusual antique with authentic French character.
