Antique Louis Philippe Walnut Commode with Carrara Marble Top, 19th Century – France
Antique French walnut commode dating from the 19th century, made in the Louis Philippe style.
The commode has four drawers with walnut veneer fronts, displaying distinctive grain patterns and variations in colour. The sides are made from walnut, while the internal frame is constructed from pine.
The rounded front corners, simple mouldings and small rounded feet are characteristic of the Louis Philippe style.
A removable white Carrara marble top, measuring 3 cm thick, sits on the commode. The marble has subtle grey veining and rounded edges.
All four drawers provide storage space and feature traditional dovetail joints. An old French furniture maker’s or retailer’s stamp can be found inside the top drawer. The drawers retain their keyholes, but the locks are not functional.
With a width of 121 cm, the commode offers plenty of storage and can be used in a bedroom, hallway or living room.
