Large French Pitch Pine Folding Screen, Room Divider, 1950s, Attributed to Baumann

Large vintage French folding screen dating from the 1950s.

The screen is made from pitch pine and features an unusual flexible construction composed of narrow vertical wooden slats. This allows the screen to be arranged in different curved and wave-like shapes, creating a particularly sculptural appearance.

Based on its design and construction, we believe the screen is most likely by Baumann, the well-known French furniture manufacturer. However, as we have been unable to find a maker’s label or stamp, we cannot confirm or guarantee this attribution.

With its generous width of 250 cm, the screen is ideal as a room divider, privacy screen or to create a separate dressing area. When not in use, its flexible construction allows it to be folded into a remarkably compact form.

The warm colour and pronounced vertical grain of the pitch pine give the screen a beautiful natural appearance.

The screen is in very good vintage condition, with only minimal signs of age and use.
