Antique French Folk Art Bench from the Auvergne, circa 1800–1850

This unusual antique bench originates from the Auvergne region of France and dates from the first half of the 19th century, circa 1800–1850.

The bench is constructed from oak and pine and reflects the regional French folk art tradition, also known as Art Populaire. Its tall backrest features a carved sun motif with a decorative copper rosette at its centre. This distinctive detail gives the bench a strong sculptural and rustic character.

The bench consists of two separate sections. The wood displays visible marks, wear, colour variations and other signs of age and previous use, consistent with its age and original function. These traces form part of its authentic antique character.
